SJC Recruitment’s Sping FUNdraising Campaign reached a dramatic conclusion as teams scrambled over the finish line in Bath’s first charity egg and spoon race held in Queen Square.
The event saw over 20 teams from business and organisations from across the city competing in the hope of taking the coveted Egg Cup away with them. Teams including GWR, Bath Police, Bath Cats & Dogs Home and, of course, SJC Recruitment, competed in the relay race last Wednesday 14th May.
Teams competed in two heats before the winner’s final, which saw the team from Moore Stephens cross the line first after a stirling performance in what only can be described as a gruelling race. Moore Stephens were awarded with the Egg Cup and a bottle of champagne, Bath Cats & Dogs Home came second whilst Bath Police went away with the wooden spoon.
Robert Branch from Moore Stephens said that the race was hard, but his team were up to the challenge. He said, “It was a tricky race, the chocolate egg was melting onto the spoon in the heat as we were running. The trophy has pride of place in the office and we’re happy to take on all challengers next year. We would also like to thank SJC Recruitment for organizing the event.”
The race was held with the aim of putting the FUN back into FUNdraising, and in an age where community events are not always easy to organise, there was plenty of support for SJCs charity race. Mayor of Bath, Councillor Sharon Ball, was also onhand to start the race and offer her support to the teams.
Teams paid £20 to enter, the profits from which will be added to the total from SJC Recruitment’s three-month long FUNdraising campaign and divided between the Friends of Bath Cats & Dogs Home, and the McDonald Family Trust who raise funds on behalf of CLIC Sargent. SJC Recruitment also treated entrants to a free lunch as a way of thanking them for supporting the event.
Daniel Birks from SJC Recruitment commented, “We were absolutely overwhelmed with the support we have received for the egg and spoon race, and the turnout on the day was more than we could have hoped for. Everyone who came along entered into it in the spirit of fun and it was generally an enjoyable event for everyone who took part. We would like to say a sincere thank you to all participants for taking part and supporting our charity campaign.”
“It was great to organise a community event that people embraced, but more importantly the egg and spoon race raised hundreds of pounds for SJC’s two chosen charities.”
