Main Duties

1. To manage and control stores, develop the skills, job and product knowledge to ensure that stores operations are carried out efficiently.

2. Ensure familiarity with and adherence to an effective Goods Inwards process. Control stock receipt, storage and issue procedures, and ensure that the correct documentation is used and all transactions are properly recorded to ensure accurate inventory control.

3. Assume responsibility for all assigned material stock both physically and in accurate record form, and introduce and sustain measures, control and checks to ensure their safe-keeping.

4. Maintain manual and computerised systems of inventory control which will provide data for stock record verification purposes, discrepancy reports and aid operational planning and consumable reorder process. Carry out Vantage system and visual/physical checks on consumables and initiate reorder process to ensure cost-effective continuity of supply.

5. Carry out checks to identify inactive and slow-moving stock items, and draw their attention to the buying department for action, to avoid unnecessary loss due to potential write-off through redundant stock.

6. Use appropriate racking, pallet, bin shelving and other storage systems, sufficient for all stock items held, positioning stocks which make most effective use of space available.

7. Develop and introduce processes and procedures that will give continual improvement and increased efficiency in the Stores function.

8. Develop the working procedures to aid current and new employees to learn and understand their responsibilities.

9. Control and maintain the integrity of the computer records relating to all stores transactions.

10. Regularly carry out H&S inspections of all working and storage spaces within the jurisdiction of the Goods Inwards and stores function, and take appropriate measures to ensure the health and safety of all persons likely to have access to those locations.

11. Carry out any other duties as directed consistent with the grading of the post.

12. Ensure that any identified personal training needs are discussed with the immediate supervisor.

 

Skills and Attributes Required

A knowledge and understanding of goods inwards and warehousing stores procedures gained by relevant work experience at a managerial level in storage/ warehouse operation with varied stock items and fast throughput.

Keyboard and PC skills; familiarity with MS Word, Excel and Warehouse Management Systems.

Accuracy, attention to detail, proactive approach, seeking solutions to problems.

Demonstrates a co-operative attitude to those delivering to stores and to production and office departments receiving items from stores.


Ability to perform some basic physical tasks associated, for example with storage, materials handling, picking, packing and stock taking.

Current FLT licence.
